About

On the popular southern scenic route, Brighton beach is sheltered amongst rocks and regarded as a relatively safe beach in comparison to other Dunedin beaches that are more exposed to weather conditions. It is a great family beach and hot days see it attracts many hundreds of swimmers. The Brighton Surf Lifesaving patrols are consistently among the best in Otago offering excellent preventative actions with proactive lifeguard practices working to keep swimmers safe.

Our contact number is (03) 481 1724.

Patrol Times

From Labour weekend until mid-March our Volunteer Surf Lifeguards patrol the beach on weekends and public holidays from 12 noon – 5.00pm. Our Regional Guard Team will be on duty during the primary school holidays from Monday 19th December to Friday 27th January and their patrol hours are  11.00am -7.00pm.

The Facility is available for hire during these times however, it is important that users are aware of this regular activity and any disruption it may cause to your function. Surf Lifeguards will be aware when a function is scheduled at the facility and they will take realistic steps to minimise any disruption.

Surf Lifeguards are regularly called to assist with afterhours rescue call outs, so this is something facility users need to be aware of. The team will only be using the downstairs part of the building to pick up the appropriate rescue gear. The facility is designed to allow multiple groups to use it seamlessly, without intruding on each other.
